A note from the Editor:

The Beginning

My husband, Derby Jones, and I purchased Southern Exposure Magazine in 2012.  Our publishing company consists of The Williamson Herald, a weekly community newspaper that publishes on Thursday and Southern Exposure Magazine.

We both have ink in our blood.  Derby grew up in Johnson City, TN where his family owned local newspapers.  We both worked for our college newspapers,  he at the Daily Beacon in Knoxville, TN and I at The Colllege Heights Herald at Western Kentucky University, in Bowling Green, KY.

After college, I worked at The Courier-Journal newspaper in Louisville, KY for 5 years before transferring to The Tennessean in 1997 to be closer to my family.  Derby and I met at The Tennessean in Adversiting and Marketing and had the opportunity to purchase The Williamson Herald in 2004.  We have two children, Maggie and Derby who attend Brentwood High School and Brentwood Middle School.

Southern Exposure Magazine

I am so excited to take on the role of Publisher of Southern Exposure Magazine.  I have been in publishing all my life.  After 30 years in this business, I feel fortunate to have a platform to celebrate Williamson County and the people and businesses that work hard each day to give back and contribute. I love the town of Franklin and I think it is important that we celebrate the attributes that make this community unique.

Southern Exposure celebrates our area non-profits, our businesses, and our residents.  Our mission is to publish articles about people and places that are of interest to our readers.  Entertainment, charitable events and causes, restaurants, and untold stories of unsung heroes if what we do best.

It takes a village to put together a magazine.  I am fortunate to have some of the best writers, photographers, columnists and designers on my team.

I appreciate the loyal readers and subscribers of Southern Exposure Magazine.

I am blessed to live in a community where people truly care about one another and about maintaining the quality of life that we are so privileged to experience.

Thank you for your friendship and support,
