I can’t believe that summer has flown by. I am looking forward to August and September, soaking up the last of summer and getting ready for fall. Fall reminds me of new beginnings, getting back to routine and possibilities of what is to come. It represents college football, cooler weather, sweaters and jeans and leaves changing on the trees.
This issue’s theme covers two of my favorite subjects – Food & Entertainment. They are my love language- along with travel. Listening to live music is when I am in my happy place and one of the spaces I feel most like myself. Lingering over a good meal at new restaurant or on the back porch with family and friends is another one of my favorite places to be.
Chris Stapleton is on the cover this month. I am a fan. I remember well his Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival debut at the Park at Harlinsdale Farm alongside Justin Timberlake in 2015. Having made his home right down the road in Leiper’s Fork, I feel like he is one of us, part of the fabric of what makes this community great.
Leiper's Fork Distillery is also featured in this issue. Lee and Lynlee Kennedy have poured their heart and soul into their business and their community since they opened in 2016. Their family has rich history in the area with Kennedy’s mom Gayle’s side of the family settling in the area in 1805. Stillhouse sessions are making a return where the stillhouse is transformed into a concert venue. That is on the bucket list for sure.
I had a chance to sit down with Dylan and Jordan Morrison of 1892 this month. They are part of what make Leiper's Fork so special. The restaurant is serving up top notch approachable and well executed food for the most sophisticated pallet, yet the food is simple and and the vibe is that of a comfortable historic house that is as welcoming as they are.
But in the meantime, I am soaking up the last of summer, and enjoying longer days and easy summer nights.
