McArthur Sanders is a home-grown real estate company with a big heart, built on integrity. Tom McArthur Jr., who now runs the business, says at the core is a principle of doing the right thing in every transaction. They call it the “McArthur Sanders way.”
Founded in 1980 by Brent and Mamie Sanders, the agency has grown and expanded. The couple worked long and hard to grow their business.
“We never considered it work,” Brent says. “It was fun meeting new people, helping people, walking farms, touring homes, turning clients into friends who would over the years return to us for their real estate needs. We’re blessed.”
Mamie is truly a homegrown Williamson Countian — Wilson Pike is named for her family.
She says she has loved the real estate business.
“I’ve had a great life in real estate. I wouldn’t take anything for it,” Mamie says. “We’ve met so many wonderful people who come back to us and refer to us. We’ve tried hard to help people along the way, and they have returned that help many times over. If I had a client show up for closing a bit short of the money needed, we would make concessions on our end to make sure the deal closed. It was just the right thing to do.”
They’ve passed the baton to their son, Tom McArthur Jr., a guy born for the business. As a kid, he rode along with his mom showing clients homes when she couldn’t get a babysitter. He had a bird’s-eye view of the business and how it should be done.
“I’ve always known I wanted to be in the real estate business,” McArthur says. “I got my license when I was still in high school. I saw the business as fun, not work. I learned from the best with [Mamie] and Brent.”
“We miss it,” Brent adds. “But Tommy does a fantastic job keeping and growing the company. Mamie and I could find buyers and sellers, but the business has become too complex, better suited to Tommy than us. We’ve retired, but we still keep up with the business and love the stories he shares with us.”
Back in the day, as McArthur says, the agency focused on land and farms. Now, it’s a full- blown agency for residential, commercial, land, rentals, relocation, appraisals and consulting. They do it all.
“I’ve inherited a great client list,” he says. “People come back to us because they have worked with [Mamie] and Brent. Their influence is huge. They are rightfully respected in the community. We intend to keep it that way.”
Straight out of college at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, McArthur began his career on the commercial side. He stayed in Knoxville for a decade, then came home to be with McArthur Sanders.
Since then, many local family farms have been sold for development, and many of the subdivisions that have emerged have used the agency to sell homes.
“In all aspects, I think my commercial appraisal experience helps our business today,” McArthur says. “We are a full-service agency moving forward to today’s real estate business. We have about 20 agents. We’re a boutique agency. We get to know our clients and help meet their needs.”
Today’s real estate business is a whole new chapter for the agency.
“I’ve been around and in real estate my whole life, and I’ve never seen a market like this,” McArthur says. “Brent and [Mamie] will tell you the same thing. Home inventory is low and demand is high. It’s a seller’s market. You’ve got to be on your A-game to help your clients, selling or buying.
“The buying part is tough; too few homes for too many people. Sellers are receiving multiple offers list price for most every house. It’s so competitive and moving so fast.”
McArthur is focused not only on today’s market but the ones which will follow. He’s on the cutting edge of the real estate business, but still at the core of the agency is doing it all in the McArthur Sanders way.
“Integrity is the core of our business,” he says. “We want to do the right thing on every transaction. And we want our business to be a positive influence in the community. We very much believe in giving back. One of our longtime passions is supporting the Williamson County Fair. It’s always a fun experience. We sponsor the Volunteer Lounge with food and drinks and offer a place to recharge.”
McArthur, like Brent and Mamie, is a guy you want to know from the get-go. Personable, friendly and approachable, he’s never met a stranger. His personality is as big as his heart.
As principal broker and co-owner of the firm, it rests on his shoulders to maintain and move forward.
The agency is in good hands.
