There is something about summertime and food. When I think of summer, I think of homegrown tomatoes and peppers I have grown in my own backyard or grabbed at my last visit to the local farmers market. I think of picnics with family and friends, street food at a downtown festival or concerts in the park, and food trucks. I think of dining outside on the back patio with Derby and our kids on Sunday night, or drinks around the pool and BBQ at the lake with family. I think of date nights or hanging with friends at the new hot spot in town.
Even when I think of summer vacation, I think of family traditions like going to Goatfeathers on 30A and cooking a big shrimp boil with the Jones family, or ordering pizza on the last night of vacation to soak up the last couple hours on the beach before heading back to reality.
This issue celebrates a few new restaurants in town. Perry’s Steakhouse and North Italia are new to the McEwen Northside development, while Happenstance Social and Pork Belly Farmhouse are new to the Nolensville scene. Checking out new restaurants is an adventure and one that has been a long time coming after a year of all of us being cooped up cooking in.
Food has a way of bringing us together and creating memories. I think I have appreciated that more this year than ever. Hopefully this issue will inspire a few new places for you to try and spark some of your own summer memories that make you smile.
