Publisher's Letter

The older I get, the more I’m starting to realize that (for me) life is all about change.  I’m not talking about the self-induced kind, like changing the paint color in your kitchen or signing up for a spin class at the gym – those are more like choices. I’m talking about the kind that chooses you.

Sometimes you even expect it, but it still manages to sneak up – seemingly overnight – like gray hair, the last day of vacation, your child going to kindergarten or in my case, leaving for college.  (I’m proud of you, Baby Cait, but I’ll miss you horribly.)

Often, change comes with no warning, like a flower that blooms overnight, finding out you’re expecting or finding yourself in the path of a tornado, like so many in our community.

There are also opportunities that arise which bring huge changes, like being offered a promotion or transfer, being asked for your hand in marriage, or in my case, having your dear friend and co-worker buy her own business and move on. (I’ll miss you dearly, Kellye, but visit often).

But worst of all, is the change you hope and pray against with no control over its outcome – like getting that phone call in the middle of the night or losing a friend to illness/cancer. (We’ll miss you terribly, Teresa, but remember you always.)
I would like to dedicate this issue to Teresa Fowler, our graphic designer and friend, who passed away on Friday, March 21.
